Country Fair

There are two eggs in the fridge
no meat a drop of milk
a frozen loaf of white bread bought
mistakenly
condiments for the imagination

we are not hungry or in despair
about the crowded emptiness in the air
our health continues til it does not
there just might be enough to feed
the dogs until month’s end

when we can begin all over, again
hoping this time it will
be different, like idiot twins: we,
the lottery tickets
for diseases, death, country fairs
