‘What Is Equal To Water’

I eat beauty, dine on waves of divinity –
not what the crass slaves of circumstance
encircled by their own introspection
determine, where sometimes I masticate
and chew,
sometimes swallow whole the evidence until
the deed is fully absorbed, transformed

the riding free on invention, no intent held
to repay a debt I’m borne into, yet an
appreciation, distillation of gratitude: the mine of
driven wind tossing
leaf confetti from trees as they too surrender
their dying children to a better place
where ghosts assume no friendly or hostile face

net neutrality is all it’s cracked up to be,
wishing only to consume; turn you from
your station on a path across entire galaxies,
stars that I nibble on, take a bite of the apple, the
ganglia and pride gone into something else
entirely now, a quick universe of inside and out not
to reaffirm but choose

to perform the uselessly appearing journey over,
and out, repeatedly awake until I feel my skin, its
tingling from the burn of how you brushed
against me one time and worlds were formed, or
brought into being which I do not debate,
simply
embraced and embracing now what I will always say

Capital… from Petty Gods Of Apparent Decline

PettyGodCovernew1

The capital of Mexico
as everyone knows is Los Angeles

In your penury you recognize
nothing of poetry or music

Believing it comes free
for you anything will do

You see you’ll pay nothing,
stuffed with substitutes

Wealthier than you though broke,
I’m more than you could hope

Looking for blood and guts
your media rules apply to ghosts

You are destitute
a slip of attitude standing for

The amusement of those of us
abused in exile, alone in truth

Oxymoron

DogCovernew1

Your place
to be with me

And mine
to be where you are

You, nor I
can share:
our destiny between the wars

So alone again:
amid
the crowds of friends

As If, or Your Teacup Philosophy

CelestialCovernew1

Jesus lived 3 years as himself, got dead.
Said Church was within you, but drink this.

Eat that, become cannibals. I’m coming
back, but I’m not telling when: spend some time
guessing. And
in the meantime, live. That’s all. Get
over yourself, or I will. Here it comes. I
don’t want to spend eternity all hung up on things.

Outside the crows and ravens
peck my eyes, the wind blows and I cannot
tell time. In the far
distance I hear something approaching, alive.
Pardon me if I dust my broom and ride.

What?
Never mind. You know I would not, could not, lie.

Sonnet

Your beauty no more than I can take
My words, that show, these rehearsals make.
I seek the gathering sun in this heart
Whose mud and stone drive me apart;
As from myself I want another I, that
Shines where darkness blots my sky.
And wheels over heaven I dare not count,
Unless by substance I increase amount,
Of those faults whose relief is sweet
By perfection stealing base needs from me.
As less than human I keep safe the crown
For shall be when it is underground:
Then do I know desire alone’s no infirmity
Which meets not the match that burns eternity.

Anywhere

You can be murdered anywhere, but
you’ll always die in Congress or in Parliament.

From a lack of care or indifference
to what’s said and done by everyone expecting
salvation be a ladder to Paradise, until
the stairs to another life declining repair
prove they lead nowhere but upside down.

Change will come eventually you think,
forgetting the war ongoing in everything
where slaughter is observed religiously,
statistics carved in counterfeit
register complaint surreptitiously proud.

To serve the perverted ego’s lazy appetite
for the curve of constancy, no matter what
it takes to frame familiar certainty:
mistaken for the truth still boasting loudly
for release from the cage of incessant proof.

In our recalcitrant lives something despairs,
training us for extinction as the prize.

Political Differences

PettyGodCovernew1

Instead of the real thing there’s the idea.
Instead of love the notion of. This cold clasp
of irons a strange caress.

Attitude instead of discipline, or self
knowledge. Mirrors of funhouse
reflections reaching either way.

The mule of cowardice absent:
the corrosion loneliness will embrace
looking for a yes.

Instead of dedication, requesting dispensation.

Our own gift of aliens: who
resemble traitors so closely now
we cannot tell there ever was a difference.
